KAVA is the hottest new rooftop bar in town! With a variety of unique African beats to keep you grooving in the right mood, this island bar is set to transport you from the hustle of the city and business realm to a world of tropical and authentic vibes of Sri Lanka.
The name KAVA is said to have been inspired by a plant of the same name originating in the South Pacific region; people who drink the roots of the KAVA plant are believed to unite as one group. Not wanting to go too much into the theme, Kava, which is the newest offering by MSD Productions, looks forward to bring forth the experience while also respecting Sri Lankan values.
The bar is also inspired by the tiki bar movement illustrated by a relaxed atmosphere during the late afternoon, letting the sun go down and the “jungle potions” flow freely while the bar lights up in a pink haze of light.
KAVA focuses on helping the bar culture in Sri Lanka move towards being more relevant to the original ideas that our island embodied. The cocktail menu and the food menu offered at KAVA revolve around a tropical island theme with an undertone of magic. It is interesting to note that the dishes and drinks are extremely affordable.
Targeting both the local market as well as tourists, KAVA is on a mission to mark their spot in the map; hopefully, going forward to become the trendsetter of tropical bars in Sri Lanka.
MSD Group Marketing Manager Midushaun Rhodes, speaking to The Sunday Morning Brunch, explained exactly how the concept was born.
“The idea behind KAVA is basically to come out of the traditional bar and restaurant concept and create something that Sri Lanka stands for. This was created in hopes of giving something to the community of Sri Lanka, where people can come, have a chat, and release their stress in a place that is magical as this,” he said.
Continuing the conversation with MSD Productions Director Dinesh Wijesinghe, he told: “KAVA Island Bar was inspired by island life, hence the wildlife and jungle theme. The food is a mix of all kinds of island cuisines, from Sri Lankan and Asian to Hawaiian. I would not call this a night club because it’s more like a lounge bar inspired by the theme of the KAVA plant.”
KAVA Island Bar is open daily from 5 p.m. till late in the night.
