Eighteen-year-old Shenya Wijerathne from Piliyandala was crowned Miss Sri Lanka 2020 in a pageant held virtually last year. Organised by Sky View Productions (Pvt.) Ltd Founder/CEO Tharindu Lakshan, the pageant has been in progress since February 2020.

The event’s preliminary audition rounds were initially held at Cinnamon Grand Colombo earlier last year and the 12 finalists went on to participate in the mini pageants. Sharing her thoughts with The Morning Brunch, Wijerathne said that she is both shocked and happy about her title.

The youngest beauty queen to be crowned in Sri Lanka, Wijerathne advised young girls everywhere to be humble and respect each other. “We mustn’t overthink about our beauty; we must focus on our hearts instead.”

Wijerathne, who will be crowned later this month in an official ceremony, said she hopes to work in the field of drug rehabilitation in the future.

Miss Sri Lanka 2020 is the second instalment of the Miss Sri Lankan title organised by Sky View Productions, where 2019’s winner went on to take part in the international pageant “Miss Tourism” held in China.

The 2020 title holder will be awarded the opportunity of a lifetime to qualify for Miss Asia Global scheduled to be held in Malaysia.
