Sameera Weerasinghe on causing a stir in men’s fashion

By Venessa Anthony

Sameera Weerasinghe’s life has revolved around fashion for as long as he can remember. This is because whatever he does and wherever he is in life right now is because of fashion, he said, adding: “My day starts and ends with fashion.”

He’s been working in the fashion industry as a model for over a decade. Weerasinghe loves to dress up, whether it’s to go out, work out, or attend a meeting. He takes dressing up and fashion seriously; it’s a lifestyle for him.

Weerasinghe, as a model and entrepreneur, works with many leading brands and has walked on the runway for some of the most prominent fashion shows in Sri Lanka. He also owns the modelling school Adam and Eve, where he trains, coaches, and guides new faces and aspiring models to make it in the industry. In addition to this, he is the founder and owner of Jump Clothing, a stylish ready-to-wear clothing line for men.

Aside from modelling and fashion, he revealed that he is an enthusiastic traveller and hopes to explore the world for fashion inspiration. He shares his adventures with his followers through his blog.

The Morning Brunch caught up with Weerasinghe for a chat to know what he is currently working on, as well as to get a few fashion tips from him.

Right now, Weerasinghe’s socials cover men’s style, holiday ideas, travel inspiration, grooming, and more. His suits are perfectly fitted and his casual wardrobe looks effortlessly stylish, so he knows how to look impeccable at all times. Weerasinghe’s feed is set against colourful backdrops and exotic travel destinations.

We asked Weerasinghe how one can find the inspiration to look meticulously put together at all times, to which he answered: “For a continuous stream of wardrobe inspiration, following the right menswear accounts on social media is key.”

Today, he noted, it’s not just women that are turning heads and creating waves. “Men are also causing a serious stir. Far more than just a nice face and defined body, male models are multi-talented stars redefining what it means to be handsome,” he stated, observing that fashion can be fickle.

Weerasinghe draws inspiration from his surroundings. “You can get inspired by the free expression of independent bloggers and style consultants who freely share their fashion ideas with anyone willing to look for them,” he said. Seasons change, trends pass by, and what’s in one day is out the next, he added.

Despite the cyclical trends in fashion, according to Weerasinghe, certain men’s clothing essentials such as a pale blue button-down shirt, dark indigo jeans, or a pair of fresh white tennis shoes, will always keep you looking fresh, all through the year.

As a model, Weerasinghe’s style is constantly changing; he’s forever trying different styles for projects, fashion shows, events, and photoshoots. His personal style, however, is relaxed and simple: “I like to wear more solid colours than prints. I prefer a monochromatic colour palette for my clothes.”

To him, style is all about being comfortable. If he’s in the mood, you’d find him bejewelled with accessories, especially hats, caps, bracelets, necklaces, rings, and eyewear.
