It was all about classic design mastery when the Classic Car Club of Ceylon partnered with SML Frontier Automotive (Pvt) Ltd, Hatton National Bank and Top Gear Sri Lanka for the fourth edition of the British Car Day last month.
Colombo’s iconic Flower Road was lined with over 70 classic cars of British make for the viewing pleasure of the public on 28 October. Each car- released and first sold in the early 20th century- had a story to tell. They were all manufactured by automobile legends; some of the marques displayed were Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Bristol, Lotus, Triumph, MG, Ford and Austin to name a few.
At 10 am, the cars were driven in a procession through the streets of Colombo to the Kingsbury Hotel, where members and participants were treated to a British-themed brunch followed by fun activities and competitions. Event partner SML Frontier Automotive (Pvt) Ltd also showcased a range of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles on the day, depicting the brand’s journey through the years as a coveted and trusted name in the automobile industry.
The Classic Car Club of Ceylon is a union of classic car enthusiasts from around the country. The club enables members to interact and share ideas and restoration tips and provides a safe environment for members to take their vehicles out for a spin. Members also take the time to share their knowledge and about these cars via regular public and educational events.
“It was a pleasure to organise the fourth edition of the British Car Day with our partners,” said Ramani Ponnambalam, President of the Classic Car Club of Ceylon.
“As always, we had a beautiful display of some of the world’s most valuable classic cars made in Britain. The club members were excited to see that these vehicles were appreciated by younger generations as well. It’s very heartening to see that everyone is able to enjoy the design and make of a great classic automobile. This drives us to keep the club’s mission alive.”
