Taking a trip down to Beruwala on a Poya Day, we made our way over to Earl’s Reef Beruwala. A beachfront property that was under refurbishment for the past two years due to the pandemic, the establishment is now opening their doors to the public following a stunning new makeover.
Speaking to Earl’s Court Group Chairman Earl Gunasekara, he shared that what is so unique about the property is that while it is part of a major hotel chain and is a four-star hotel, it presents itself almost like a boutique property.
He noted that they have gone to great lengths to ensure that Earl’s Reef places great focus and resources to ensure absolute quality. He especially noted that unlike their neighbouring properties, Earl’s Reef chose to invest greatly in building and expanding their property during Covid-19 because they have faith in the eventual pickup in the industry.
“Tourism is like that. Whenever any issue comes up, it is tourism that is always effected first but it is also the industry that recovers first. Regardless of the current situation and once all is over, we can almost guarantee that there will be traffic from Europe owing to all those who are frustrated and looking to simply get out,” said Gunasekara.
Earl’s Reef, new and improved, boasts 52 deluxe rooms and five suite rooms, each with a sea-facing view, and according to General Manager Sujeewa De Zoysa, they have a newly constructed panorama suite which would be a unique experience for guests who choose to stay there.
De Zoysa shared that they have some new additions that they feel would be very popular with their guests including their lighthouse bar – a stunning open air space where guests can enjoy their evenings – and their new spa which has also been popular with guests. He also shared that because they now have much more spacious rooms, they have begun to entertain families or groups of friends who have begun to patronise their property.
He also shared that their new Chef Dinendra, with his over-two-decades of experience brings with him some unique expertise, especially when it comes to more experiential dining options, so guests can look forward to some outdoor action stations and other new and exciting gastronomic experiences. Chef Dinendra himself shared that he is looking forward to introducing something new to Earl’s Reef guests.
If you are staying at the hotel you will also have the opportunity to experience the activities provided in the adjoining water sports centre – diving, snorkelling, and other activities. Additionally, there are numerous other excursions which the hotel is prepared to put together for their guests upon request.
Sharing his hope for the future of their property, De Zoysa shared that he believes their greatest strength is their staff. He noted that while many of them are young and fairly inexperienced, they are incredibly passionate and are really the driving force behind their sure success.
