‘A Couture Collection’ gives young designers a platform

Hosted by The Hilton Colombo exclusively for Lady Hilton members and guests, the International Academy of Fashion and MODART International Paris – Sri Lanka Branch recently held “A Couture Collection”, featuring the work of their designers. Hair and makeup was done by Ramani Fernando Salons and the models and choreography were presented by Rozanne Diasz.

The International Academy of Fashion (IAF), formerly known as Lanka Institute of Fashion Technology (LIFT), was formed in the year 2000 as the premiere fashion education institute in Sri Lanka. Registered under the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, IAF is linked with MODART International Paris, France and the University of Northampton, UK, and has a rare combination of services that it provides through its international partners.

At “A Couture Collection”, the designers from MODART International and the International Academy of Fashion presented a collection of work that was entirely designed and manufactured by each designer under various themes. All their garments were handcrafted with various techniques with attention to detail in cut and print design.

The concepts for these collections varied from the colonisation of Mars, geometry-inspired graffiti, sustainability and upcycling, and Japanese porcelain art, to balancing life’s yin and yang, and Sri Lankan heritage.

Each designer presented three designs, and the event showcased a colourful variety of garments produced by the IAF and MODART designers.
