Marians and Daddy 2020: A highly anticipated collaboration

On 4 October 2020, musical legends Marians and Daddy will be taking the stage at Havelock Grounds at 6.30 p.m. in an event organised by the music concert management company Bourne Innovations.

Bourne Innovations Director/CEO Janith Perera shared with The Morning Brunch that the event promises to deliver an overall different experience – something that would be beyond what concert-goers have become accustomed to.

The event is highly anticipated considering that this collaboration was last seen six years ago when industry veterans Marians came across the youthful Daddy and together held their first exclusive collaboration where they performed to over 3,500 concert-goers at the heart of Negombo. Perera shared that the event was a memorable one and since then, there has certainly been a keen interest brewing in seeing these two greats take the stage once more together.

Perera shared that Marians, who are celebrating over three decades of music, has remained one of the most recognisable names in the music industry within the island; they have never failed to draw in a crowd and sell out shows, Perera said, adding that Daddy, who recently celebrated their 10th anniversary via their 2019 concert “Aaley 2019” at the Nelum Pokuna to an audience nearly 6,000 strong, has shown that together they are one of the most desirable duos imaginable.

He also shared that during these trying times where the entertainment and event industry has plummeted, it is a social responsibility to support artistes, while this is also an opportunity for fans and everyone who’s involved to take part in upliftmenting live band music.

Perera added that they have gone to great lengths to ensure the event will be Covid-19 safe and that concert-goers will have no reason for concern. They will be carrying out all necessary health and safety precautions, and conduct temperature checks while also documenting all persons attending the show to ensuring security remains tight.

This collaboration is set to be a generational music infusion, Perera shared, noting that the music performed at the show will set itself apart from any other musical collaboration we have experienced prior. He said the alliance between both Marians and Daddy is not set to be like other “attached shows” where artistes are featured one set after the other, but audiences will be presented with the opportunity to witness a true medley between the music of the two bands. The concert is set to be a true musical amalgamation – definitely something the audience will not expect, he emphasised.

Despite having performed on the same stage together, both Marians and Daddy will also be collaborating in this way for the very first time, and the event is further elevated in that this would also mark the first time a local concert featuring local artists will be held at the Havelock Grounds. Perera said that they are honoured to be a part of a moment in history and they hope that audiences will receive the event well.
