New year’s resolutions for 2022

It’s 2022 and with the beginning of January, one topic that is widely discussed are new year’s resolutions. It’s an inevitability that the question will pop at some point, and for many this may be a detestable topic absolutely repulsed by everybody and their mother asking “so what plans for the new year?” Especially considering the disaster year we’ve all had in 2021, it can be a touchy topic.

So, to help out with a more positive outlook on new year’s resolutions, and to maybe give you some ideas, we spoke to a few known personalities who have achieved and succeeded in their chosen fields this past year to share with us what their resolutions are for the coming year.

Saasha Karunarathne

Everybody has their own unique take on resolutions, with some deciding to cover the “greatest hits”, often deciding they’re all just too difficult midway through January. Speaking to media personality and online content creator Saasha Karunarathne, she shared that this time around, she has attempted to introduce a new approach to her new year’s resolutions.

“I’ve decided to remove the clutter in my expectations for myself and keep it simple – I have two things to accomplish this year, and that’s it,” she said, adding that instead of giving herself a list of strict rules to abide by, she’s rather focused on just two things.

“Fitness-wise, I would like to reach my optimal possible physical fitness levels this year and the second is to finally go through with a life goal I have been putting off, almost my entire life,” she said. Saasha said the latter of the two was something she has been procrastinating for a long time because of fear of failure and other anxieties, but that this year she will go for it.

Alison Wijemanne

With Saasha giving herself two clear goals to work towards, we spoke to businesswoman and content creator Alison Wijemanne who also, quite similar to Saasha, has decided to keep things pretty simple.

“Every year, I want to do better in my job than I did the year before, and that’s my resolution for this year as well. To do better than the last,” she shared. She added that for her, there is a significance in resolutions as it is a simple matter of setting a goal and recognising it on a significant date, and reaffirming her commitment to said goal.

Amanda Amarasekara

Speaking to social media personality Amanda Amarasekara, he was a little different in his approach to resolutions, choosing to focus more on self-growth and reflection. He said: “I hope to not underestimate the value of time, to not take time for granted. I would also like to be more empathetic with people.”

As for content creator Eric Heinrichs, he shared that he and his wife have decided to look at their resolutions as a whole for the entirety of next year – more a “vision”, an “overall scope”. He said that they have reflected on 2021 and that he felt as though that this past year was a period of establishing themselves, and this upcoming year would be full of action. “We want to break out of the box. I want to do things that we never would have seen ourselves doing,” he added.

Thanks to all of these lovely people, we too were inspired to make our own resolutions. We decided that things don’t have to be so specific, and you tend to give up when you are too hard on yourself, so for this year, we hope to be kinder to ourselves and to everybody around us. It’s easier said than done; we hope to be mindful of our feelings and others so that we can all navigate life, which isn’t always easy, and maybe we can all get through it together with minimal damage.

Wishing you all the best year yet! Happy 2022!
