Oshada Tea

Speaking to Brunch, Fredoswiss Founder Ravi Ratnasekera, a graduate and lecturer in agriculture shared that, having dabbled in agricultural exports, and by combining his own knowledge of the subject, he wished to create a product that would combine tea and medicinal properties of a multitude of herbs in an easy-to-use package for convenience.

Ratnasekara shared that he collaborated with a leading medical company in order to develop the formulations, and with the help of a number of experts he was able to come up with some innovative products.

Starting with his first product the Safflower tea and a few others, he entered the market. As for this most recent one – Oshada Tea – he said that it came about because of his daughter. “The idea was for my daughter. She was leaving for Belarus for her studies, and in that part of the world, especially during winter time, one can be prone to coughs and colds often,” he said. In order to alleviate some of the discomfort his daughter may have to endure, he set to start the work of Oshada Tea.

Oshada Tea

Oshada Tea contains 20 different herbs and spices – Ceylon cinnamon, kapparawaliya, nelli, araththa, Ceylon green tea, coriander, ginger, long pepper, black pepper, kantakari, venivel, elabatu, sirithekku, asamodagam, parpata, turmeric, licorice, adathoda, and vishnukranthi together with Ceylon black tea.

According to Ratnasekara, this particular brew used in Oshada Tea contains herbs and spices handpicked from around the island and combined to help strengthen your immunity and to help supplement an uninterrupted long and healthy life.

He shared that he intended for the tea to be somewhat of a daily consumption item – it can be your cup of tea to have every day. He shared that he took great care to ensure that it is pleasant and aromatic, and having tried it ourselves we can certainly vouch for the fact that it is actually an incredibly enjoyable drink. The numerous herbs and spices are present but not overpowering.

While the tea is immune-boosting in that it packs a punch in medicinal herbs and spices, it is also an incredibly calming and gentle tea that is simply a joy to have.

Ratnasekara shared that he intended for the tea to be incorporated into one’s day-to-day life – similar to drinking a multivitamin, you could simply make it part of your daily routine.

For wider accessibility, the tea is available in 20 g and even 10 g packs and you are able to get it in tea bags and each in easy-to-use sachets which can be used to make up to three cups of tea.

He noted that he does not wish to mass produce the product and therefore. it is not available in supermarkets – as he does mix it himself which allows him to quality control, it is not made available in bulk.

However, if you wish to get your hands on a pack for yourself, your family, or friends, then you can check out Union Chemist where the tea is being sold, or reach out to Ratnasekara;
