Predicting fashion trends for 2023

Fashion is constantly evolving and it is difficult to predict what will be popular in the future. It is always best to keep an eye on current fashion trends and be open to trying new styles that resonate with you. Whatever seems like a hit towards the end of 2022 is probably going to be what’s hot in 2023, and have everyone clamouring to buy that one thing. The Morning Brunch reached out to our readers to see if they had any predictions for 2023 fashion trends, to help you stay ahead of the game and always look your best.

Remember, fashion is a way to express yourself and have fun with your personal style, so even if a trend doesn’t resonate with you, don’t be afraid to experiment and find what works for you.

 Coloured blush

Sadira Sittampalam is all for coloured blush in 2023

As far as your makeup-bag necessities go, blush usually falls low on the list. A swipe of blush across the apples of your cheeks has a timeless appeal, but blush as the focal point of your look probably transports you back to the 80s. However, after months of sitting inside with bare faces, Sadira Sittampalam pointed out that bold statement blush is trending, and the evidence is all around us. “TikTok keeps showing me videos of the Rare Beauty Blush by Selena Gomez – it’s hyper-pigmented and seems to be all the rave. Everyone’s NYE makeup too seems to highlight the blush a lot and many make-up trends use blush as the focal point,” she explained.

Bell-bottoms

What are bell-bottoms? They are pants from the 1960s that, as Pujanee Galappaththi observed, are making a fashion comeback. These pants were created in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries to serve as a uniform for sailors. However, it was popularised by the anti-war counterculture of the 1960s, and has remained so ever since. Bell-bottoms can have high- or mid-rises (the latter are called hip-huggers) and you might see that the bottom hems drag on the floor when people wear them.

On the topic of bell-bottoms, Galappaththi shared some tips on how she’s been pulling it off lately. “You can show off the silhouette of the pants by tucking your shirt into the waistband to accentuate the higher waist. And if you don’t want ugly shirt lines showing around your waist, you can tuck your shirt slightly into your underwear,” she explained, adding that pairing them with flats, a wedge heel, or a short boot will have you looking fresh off the runway.

 Buzz cuts

A buzz cut is an excellent way to start fresh, and they are making a comeback, believe it or not, as pointed out by Sumaya Gunasekara, who also took the leap this year and shaved down to a buzz cut.

It’s no shocker that this style is creeping back up on us – we can’t deny that it’s a great cut for practically any hair texture, looks great on people with thinning hairlines, and, as we all know, the shorter your hair is, the easier it is to try out new hair colours with minimal risk. “I kept seeing videos of crazy hair colours and patterns on people’s buzz cuts, and surprisingly? It looked amazing! I even considered trying out different hair colours and patterns a few times myself but had to resist due to work restrictions – but if I could go for it, I certainly would, and I encourage all women to just do it!” she exclaimed.

“If you don’t like it, shave it off and start over.” A buzz can also aid in the expansion of your wardrobe and cosmetic alternatives. If you use all that extra canvas, you’d be surprised how much you can do with such little hair.
