Rare pictures of Amitabh Bachchan exhibited as actor turns 80

Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan turns 80 today (11 October) and India is celebrating with screenings of the actor’s early films, as well as an exhibition of rare pictures.

According to BBC, the Film Heritage Foundation has organised a festival titled “Bachchan Back to the Beginning”, comprising Amitabh Bachchan’s landmark early films to be held over four days at 22 cinemas in seven cities across India. The festival ends today.

In addition to this, 50 photographs, mainly sourced from film historian, author, and memorabilia archivist S.M.M. Ausaja’s collection will be exhibited alongside the screenings. The exhibition will also include rare vintage posters, select artwork, and the original costume from Shahenshah, a 1988 movie where Bachchan played the dual roles of a comic policeman and a crime-fighting vigilante. The actor is also known as the Shahenshah (King of Kings) of Bollywood.

A birthday special of the quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati (Who wants to be a millionaire?), hosted by Amitabh Bachchan, will also premiere today, and the actor’s spouse Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan will join him on screen. The promo for the episode shows Jaya revealing something that makes Abhishek Bachchan emotional.
