With the pandemic, a lot of our usual entertainment spots shut down. Here’s some good news: Scope Cinemas is reopening today (8).

Speaking to The Morning Brunch, Scope Cinemas CEO Naveed Cader expressed that their customers’ safety will be promised and that they will be abiding by Sri Lanka’s current health and safety regulations, as well as imposing some of their own. He explained that customers will not be asked to socially distance if they arrive with a group, but all customers must wear masks at all times.

The individuals in the group are permitted to sit next to each other while maintaining a seated distance between the next group. He informed us that the cinemas will be operating only at 75% of its usual occupancy. “From the introduction of Scope Cinemas, we have had multiple showtimes due to the fact that we have many screens, so we are available to cater to many people, even though we are only allowed to operate at 75% capacity,” explained Cader.

“During the first wave, we invested in cleaning and sanitising equipment that even America is currently using. We maintain the same standards as they do,” Cader said, adding that their staff will also be working in smaller teams. “They will also be made to go through temperature checks and a sanitisation process in order to enter the building as a general protocol, as will all customers.”

Talking about what Scope Cinemas is up to currently, he said: “We’re just preparing for the reopening with the pandemic, because this is something new for everyone.” He added that with the time he had due to the pandemic, he used that opportunity to focus on their upcoming projects and ventures as well. “We are looking to give the Sri Lankan public a safe and secure cinematic experience as we have done in the past.”

Cader is also planning on bringing in a variety of new content so their consumers have a range of choices to choose from. Scope Cinemas launched Wonder Woman 1984 on their screens today, and plan on bringing in some well-known Tamil movies next week, along with some Hollywood hits as well, catering to every audience.

Scope has gone above and beyond to ensure the wellbeing of their customers, without hindering their cinematic experience. It’s still the ideal chill spot for anyone looking for a social meet up, with minimum risk of contracting the virus.

Scope Cinemas has some exciting news to announce. Cader revealed that they are embarking on one of their largest projects yet, a multiplex which will be situated at the Havelock City real estate project. “We’re looking at bringing our customers something novel and different. We plan on initiating some unique features and screens that haven’t been done before. We want to give our customers the ultimate cinematic experience here at Scope.” Cader hopes to launch the multiplex by the end of this year.

The cinemas will be open as usual, operating at its regular screening times starting today.
