From screenings of Indika Ferdinando’s Bulletproof Children, Nilendra Deshapriya’s Thanha Rathi Ranga, and Visakesa Chandrasekaram’s Paangshu to panel discussions and workshops featuring Samanalee Fonseka, Nilendra Deshapriya, and Visakesa Chandrasekaram, Sri Lankan cinema is definitely getting the spotlight at the Indus Valley International Film Festival (IVIFF), which will be held in Chandigarh, India until 2 October.
The festival is an initiative of the South Asia Forum for Art and Creative Heritage (SAFACH), which endeavoured to create South Asia’s first travelling international film festival, the first edition of which was held in 2019 in New Delhi. This is the fourth edition of IVIFF, and showcases films from South Asia and Southeast Asia, in addition to panel discussions with filmmakers from participating nations, and workshops on scriptwriting, film-making, and documentary-making.
The organisers state that they hope to travel to Colombo, as well as other South and Southeast Asian countries including Nepal, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, and later, to Europe.
