Snow World is back

After a 13-year hiatus, Excel World is re-launching Snow World. The once-beloved attraction was officially reopened on Monday (12) and the re-launch was held in collaboration with principal sponsor PepsiCo, its main media sponsors, Excel Restaurants, and Browns Group officials.

If you were an early 2000s kid growing up in Sri Lanka, then you most likely remember the initial hype around the launch of Snow World and the ensuing clips of kids and families enjoying themselves in the ice that looked absolutely magical. Snow World had Colombo buzzing for the entirety of its time in operation and this was before social media became a thing.

Snow World back then was unique in that it was the one and only venue in Sri Lanka where one could experience a snow-like simulation. For those of us who had never experienced snow before, it was an unforgettable experience and with its relaunch, Snow World has once again captured that same magic from years past.

The experience is not only for kids; it can be enjoyed by general audiences from all age groups. Snow World boats a spacious enclosure with a raised platform entirely covered in ice, complete with festive décor and holiday lights. The overall effect looks like a winter wonderland. The walls are painted with Christmas-themed murals perfect for aesthetic Instagram posts and the overall ambience makes it the perfect place for filming some gorgeous social media content.

However, the real highlight of Snow World is its simulated ‘snowflakes’ which look stunning, especially amidst all the holiday lights. The ‘snowflakes’ add to the overall look and feel, creating a frosty atmosphere, and the subsequent drop in temperature makes it freezing cold, with everyone getting sprayed with ice which really amps up the realistic feeling of winter.

It must be said, however, that if you are taking younger kids, some warm clothes may be advised. While realistically the temperatures are bearable, it does get pretty cold and maybe an extra set of clothes may be a good idea as things can get pretty damp with the ‘snowflakes’ melting as they land on you. Unless you want to spend the rest of your day as if you have had a quick run in the rain, take a change of clothes or perhaps make it your last activity for the day.

Excel World, with its arcade, bowling alley, and food court with a number of food outlets, remains a premier destination to have a good time. If you are looking to spend the day filled with fun activities during these Christmas holidays, especially with your family, then this might just be the perfect place for you.

Snow World is now open to the public from 13-31 December from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. as part of Excel Worlds’ ‘Festive Carnival’ which will be continuing throughout the month of December. The carnival consists of games and entertainment designed especially for your whole family to enjoy.
