Staycation-style comfort at The Lavender House

Easily one of the best hotel stays we’ve had in a while, The Lavender House by Reveal in Pussellawa is a luxurious colonial-style bungalow that is absolutely ideal for an intimate get-away for family, couples, and friends if they wish to kick back, relax, and unwind.

Lavender House

It is the perfect holiday refuge, nestled amidst the charming upcountry environs, surrounded by a beautiful tea plantation paired with all the modern amenities including five lavish bedrooms, all retaining its English-style architecture while boasting all the fixings one would expect from a well-equipped luxury stay.

The Lavender House was officially opened to the public in January 2022 as part of a collection by Reveal – an effort by Brown’s Group of Companies. Restoring the English-style bungalow that is over a century old, the property, while retaining its original essence, has had some new additions including an outdoor, elevated restaurant space and multiple other architectural efforts such as raised ceilings and of course a stunning, heated outdoor pool that looks over the vistas of the hill country.

With a capacity of up to 10 to 12 packs with kids, guests can either book a single room or even the entire bungalow.

With the high-end nature of the property, it is understandably a niche market, and setting the property apart from its peers is also its unique and secluded location. Speaking to Brown’s Hotels and Resorts Group General Manager Eksath Wijeratne, he said: “The property is cut off from the rest of the tourist areas but we are still on the main road. So if you are looking for complete relaxation, then this is the best. And if you are looking to stay a few nights, then you also have the opportunity to explore the area if you’re looking for culture and other outdoor activities, waterfalls, ample greenery, etc.,” he said.

He also shared that they take pride in providing the best comfort, service, and food. Having stayed at the property for the night and experiencing the service first-hand, we can vouch for the personalised service that the bungalow provides. The hotel staff are experienced and well trained, incredibly friendly, and also knowledgeable about the history of the property and the town.

High Tea

As for the food, there really isn’t anything left to be desired as, according to Wijeratne, their chefs have international and local culinary experience, which is evident in the variety of dishes that are available with a special note of Sri Lankan cuisine. They also offer different dining experiences – we were treated to a unique lava stone grill dinner experience where guests can prepare their own grilled meats and seafood as a fun and exciting dinner activity.

The aforementioned outdoor restaurant also accepts outside guests. Despite not staying at the property, if you wish to dine at The Lavender House you are free to make a reservation.

As for comfort, it really goes without saying that The Lavender House is more of a staycation-style property where you visit the bungalow to enjoy it – to bask in the comfort, enjoy the food, and simply take in the ambience.

Leaving The Lavender House and returning back to the city was quite jarring. Having stepped out in the middle of our work week, the complete and utter comfort and breakaway from the fast-paced city life was almost a meditative experience. If you are looking for complete and total relaxation in ultimate comfort, then perhaps The Lavender House by Reveal is for you.
