Over the years, the concept of lingerie has evolved greatly. What were once long, flowing undergarments with a simple lace trim are now dainty little pieces of fabric. The Morning Brunch reached out to local lingerie brand Ceylon Sense Founders Nadi and Thilan to learn how we can style some of their pieces unconventionally.

 Cupless semi-corset

Traditionally, a corset is an undergarment worn on the torso that shapes or trains the body into an hourglass silhouette. Often seen in period fashion, a classic corset comprises two panels of fabric that clasp in the front and lace up at the back, allowing wearers to tie it as tightly as they like to cinch the waist.

“Today, we want freedom in moving and just take ideas and inspiration from those times,” the founders said, adding: “Our semi-corset will go well with many clothes from your wardrobe, such as your dresses, shirts, t-shirts. Styling our cupless semi-corset will give more focus to your waist area, making it visually smaller without putting any pressure on it.”

They suggested styling the semi-corset with a midi skirt for a dressy date night look, or a t-shirt with a pair of wide-leg pants and sandals for a casual, daytime outfit.

Layered over an oversized white button-down shirt is another classic look you can dress up and accessorise.

Contour bra

 Garter belt

Garter belts for the body have a more visually pleasant and seductive purpose. Few women now wear stockings to work, but we cannot deny that it looks amazing on a woman’s body and gives a work lady vibe. So mixing it with lingerie can be a great way to keep it spicy.

Add a few extra straps to any of your lingerie and you will see how differently it looks. And don’t hesitate to wear it under or over a casual look where it is visible; for example, under a deep-cut shirt or leg straps with a high-cut side-open skirt.

 Contour bra

Another accessory that can be worn over the clothes is the contour bra, and the classiest way to style it is with a shirt. You can wear it with or without a bra underneath, and it will go with any colour of your wardrobe, as the Ceylon Sense contour bra comes in black with white beards.

If you’re going on a date, then wear it with a long tight dress or with a silky slip dress. Put your hair up and high heels on to have all eyes on you.
