Coming from a background of cooking, it was only natural that Tania Wijeysooria’s next step was to start up Bundy Full – her very own cloud kitchen. In conversation with The Morning Brunch she told us that she initially started Bundy Full as a way of helping her mom, who has been in the food industry for a long time. “I grew up helping my mom, my aunt and my grandma to cook, so this was a natural transition for me.”
Despite opening in 2019, the lockdown inspired her to take Bundy Full to the next level and she began offering frozen breakfast for kids. “I have kids and I know how difficult it is to figure out breakfast with everything happening in the morning,” she told us, adding that it became something that she too, as a mom, benefited out of.
During the Christmas season, she also offers love cake and breudher. “Our breudher recipe has been in our family for over five generations; even the pan we use to make it is over 150 years old, which adds to the flavour of it. We’ve always had repeat customers over the years, who order three at a time sometimes!”
We asked what challenges she had to face with her brand, to which she responded, “keeping aside the whole issue with gas and the vegetable shortage, our highest obstacle has been finding a reliable delivery partner”.
Tania plans to introduce school snack box fillers soon, which is what she plans on focusing on this year. “The frozen snacks that you get in the supermarket are all so generalised and full of spice. I also have a minimum quantity that has to be ordered so the child is not forced to eat the same thing every day,” she told me, when elaborating further on what to expect from the snack boxes.
She’s currently taking less orders due to the lack of gas and other shortages in the country, and with her third baby on the way, this breather is well received, so orders placed in advance are appreciated.
In the future, she hopes to eventually expand and have her items available for sale in stores, and told us that she actually had the opportunity to do so a few months ago, but hit a rough patch in her pregnancy so she was unable to pursue it, although she is currently working on looking into it further.
