“Leader of Your Mind” by Tenny, Natalya, and Aitana premiered on Christmas Day as a nice little holiday treat. A brand new track with an accompanying music video, the original was released without much fanfare but has since received some attention online due to its extremely unique composition and fresh choice of visual storytelling.
We spoke to Co-Founder and guitarist of Stigmata Tennyson Napoleon who is the music composer and producer for the 
Tenny shared with us that it was actually a really interesting story because this was a collaboration of three countries, as sisters Natalya and Aitana contributed to the song entirely remotely.
Natalya of course is no stranger to Lankan audiences. While currently working in the frontlines as a medical professional in the US, Natalya was formerly well known for her breathtaking jazz performances as a part of the band “The Skylines”, who regularly provided the evening’s entertainment at the Curve Tapas Bar, Park Street Mews.
Speaking about their collaboration, Tenny shared that having wanted to get Natalya onboard to perform on a track with him for a long time, once he had a couple of tracks ready, he shared them with her and she chose this one. He mentioned that Natalya was the one who penned down the lyrics for the song as well.
Speaking about the song and what she hoped to get across through her lyrics, Natalya shared that the theme of the song is about autonomy, and the idea that you are the only person with the power to “make the changes you want to make in your life, and every day is a new day to try that”.
Tenny further stated that what Natalya brought to the track with her lyrics was her unique experience during these times, as someone who is in the thickest of it all, she was able to voice her perspective and put into a words a positive message, something that was uplifting for these times that we are in right now. He said that they wished to share a hopeful message and a positive outlook through this track.
Tenny also addressed the genre-bending sound of the song and also the music video, sharing that it was largely experimental music, not entirely modern but with a hint of jazz fusion. He said that he wished for it to be minimalist, but with a lot of experimental effects – a soundscapes type of experience.
He mentioned that what was most interesting about this track is that it was done entirely remotely, with them utilising whatever equipment they had with them to make things happen. He said that Natalya and her sister Aitana contributed their vocals; Natalya having recorded the entire thing on a phone and Aitana providing harmonies in the same way as well.
The music video was also recorded on a phone. Aitana, being a performance artist, took the time to listen to the track and choreograph a full routine that expressed the emotions of the song, then recorded it and shared it with Tenny who added the effects you see on the final video.
Tenny said that what started off as a project that was just a song, then turned out to be a complete development and an entire art project.
“Leader of Your Mind” is an entrancing track with lush harmonies and an extremely captivating visual which will have you at it on a loop – the video is now available on Aitana Gunaratne’s YouTube channel.
