A one-stop spot for all your senses – the newest addition to Colombo’s restaurant scene “The Warehouse” boasts of art, culture, and cuisine all under one roof.
Situated at Vauxhall Street, Colombo 2 the restaurant launched on Valentine’s Day; a beautiful tradition practised by its owner and Lion Royal Group of Companies Chairman Nilan Wickramasinghe, who has made it a point to always launch his initiatives on 14 February.
The Warehouse, just only a few weeks in, is already making some noise, especially considering its incredibly Instagram-able venue. Considering that The Warehouse has pretty much repurposed an old warehouse, converting it to exude rustic luxury, the place is ideal for a photo-op.
The interior has exposed brick walls lined with pieces of art akin to a gallery; pieces which patrons are free to enjoy and purchase if they wish. A scattering of orchids surround you within the main dining space and you are given the option of an outdoor seating area that is also lush with greenery facing the Beira Lake.
Speaking to its Digital Marketing Manager Yasith Wickramasinghe, he said that the entire concept was created for the purposes of allowing Colombo’s restaurant goers to enjoy a quiet space that has art, music, and, of course, delicious food.
He shared that at present, The Warehouse primarily offers Chinese food. However, he stated that The Warehouse is all about customisation and giving the customers what they want. Therefore if there are any specific requests, then patrons are more than welcome to make a special request.
A key highlight at the property is live music – with their dedication to featuring the arts and culture within the walls of The Warehouse, they currently host a live band on weekends. The band which they fondly refer to as “The Warehouse of Rhythm” features veteran artists; musicians like Thilak Dias who has played with the best and will be featuring his crew on weekends to serenade the patrons at The Warehouse. According to Yasith, they hope to make live music available during certain weekdays as well.
Having enjoyed a lovely dinner buffet at the newly opened restaurant, we can certainly vouch for their food. It is “chef’s kiss”, and while we tried out the buffet, they primarily offer à la carte options throughout the week as well. Open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., The Warehouse is ideal to get your lunch and dinner, and they also provide takeaway and delivery options.
If you want any more confirmation on how good the food is, a featured restaurant at The Warehouse is the famous Flower Drum Colombo, quite literally bringing the taste of generations as one of Sri Lanka’s oldest Chinese restaurants. Yasith also shared that the venue also hosts the all new Coco Pizza and Burgers.
What was most significant of the experience at The Warehouse was its location – right in the middle of Colombo but somehow able to be secluded, away from the bustle and noise, the venue is absolutely perfect for intimate getaways. If you are looking to have a family dinner, or for co-operates looking for a quiet lunch or dinner, to unwind after a hard day, the location is fantastic.
The venue has two conference rooms, able to host 12 people each and the venue can be reserved for private occasions.
If you are looking for a quiet night out, to enjoy some great food while listening to some live music surrounded by gorgeous art, complete with a relaxing atmosphere, then The Warehouse comes highly recommended.
