‘Untouched’ and ‘Love and Lock Down’ take stage at Elphinstone

Sujeewa Pathinisekara’s internationally acclaimed play
Untouched and M. Safeer’s Love and Lock Down will be staged at the Elphinstone Theatre on 13 and 14 December at 7 p.m.

Pathinisekara’s Untouched has represented Sri Lanka in theatre festivals held in the United Arab Emirates, India, Egypt, and Mongolia, becoming the best theatre production at the Sharm El Sheikh Theatre Festival in Egypt, and claimed the highest award ever won by a Sri Lankan play at the Saint Muse International Theatre Festival in Mongolia. It has taken the pride of Sri Lankan theatre art to the world by being nominated for best direction, best play, best choreography, and best actress awards.

Veteran dramaturg M. Safeer’s Love and Lockdown held its local premiere at the first monodrama festival held in Sri Lanka last year, and this was also his 50th consecutive theatre encounter. Its first international premiere was held last April at the Adana National Theatre in Turkey, one of only three international plays selected for the month-long Adana Drama Festival. Love and Lockdown is also scheduled to be staged in the UAE and other countries including India, Bangladesh, Egypt, Romania, and Mongolia in the future. For the first time Love and Lockdown will be performed in both Sinhala and English.

Subuddhi Lakmali takes the stage in both creations while sets and choreography is done by Safeer, and lighting is by Pathinisekara and Wasantha Kumara. Stage management is by Nirosh Kaviratne, M. Safras, and M. Sharaf, assisted by M. Sharaz.

Love and Lockdown was written by Prasad Wickramarathna. The directors of these fantastic theatre productions are Sujeewa Pathinisekara and M. Safeer, and they are presented by Inter Act Art Theatre Institute.
