WORX is a gorgeous co-working space located in Jawatta with a primary goal to change the negative feelings people normally have when the thought of going to work arises. The co-working space created a beautiful and functional office space that gives all workers the space to come up with novel and innovative ideas. They were also named as Best Co-Working Space of the Year.
Brunch spoke to WORX Director Azahn Munas to learn more about the concept and their recent achievement.
What is WORX and what was the inspiration behind its creation?
The purpose behind WORX is to change the way people feel about coming to work. We want to create a space where members can not only accomplish a hard day’s work but can also spend quality recreational time to replenish and relax. Supported by a strong community of like-minded people will further enhance their ability to achieve greatness and this is what WORX is all about.
WORX was named Best Co-Working Space of the Year in Sri Lanka; what are your thoughts on this achievement?
Being recognised as one of the leading co-working spaces in our country is a huge accomplishment! Having launched in the midst of a global pandemic just over a year ago, we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved in a relatively short period of time. I strongly believe that co-working will define the future of workplaces in this country and WORX will be at the forefront of this movement.
What do you think makes WORX stand out amongst all other co-working spaces?
Our aesthetic and vibe are totally different to what is currently out there in Colombo. Instead of opting for large, open-plan spaces with lots of offices, desks, and seats, we chose to go with smaller spaces filled with lots of character and design with the added bonus of a friendly and hospitable onsite team. With beautiful, fully furnished workspaces, we like to focus on the little things, so our members can accomplish the great things.
WORX is a popular space in Colombo for photoshoots; what do you have to offer to make these photoshoots unique?
Our Jawatte House location is a stylish and contemporary art deco property. With large, open areas that are beautifully designed with the utmost attention to detail, this building has some truly unique and photogenic spaces that are perfect for photography.
We offer guests access to our lobby, zen garden, pool, and rooftop terrace, and we also have an onsite photo studio as well to ensure our customers are truly spoilt for choice.
How did WORX function during the lockdowns? Did you face any challenges?
Lockdowns were an incredibly tough time for our business, like many others. We missed seeing our members everyday as we were forced to close our doors. To ease some of the burden on our members, however, we suspended all rental obligations and offered further support if needed.
You offer memberships; what does that entail?
WORX membership tiers allows you as a user to access both shared and private spaces depending on which you prefer. The Hot Desk membership gives you basic access to our co-working hub and facilities including meeting rooms, onsite kitchen, and much more. This membership includes a Day Pass and Weekly Pass, making it the perfect solution if you need a temporary workspace. The Dedicated Desk membership provides you with your very own dedicated desk, complete with an ergonomic chair and lockable storage. This tier provides you with access to premium facilities and special benefits as well. The Private Office membership is the perfect solution for startups and small businesses ready to take their next step. You and your team will also have access to a wider range of our premium facilities and special benefits.
What’s next for WORX?
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a new co-working space in Nawala this February, which is complete with a mix of private offices, elegant communal spaces, and an on-demand meeting room. The offices are fully furnished as per the standards at the first two locations, including WiFi, filtered water, tea and coffee, daily cleaning, reception services, and onsite parking. As a value-added service, the space provides 24/7 access along with full-time staff assistance and security as well.
