- The trio tells us all about their new track releasing on 11 November
By Venessa Anthony
With the situation in the country returning to a semblance of normalcy, artists and musicians have taken the opportunity to release new music. DJs Alex-T and Halishan, and singer Aimee are all set to release their track Electrify Me on 11 November.
The Morning Brunch caught up with them to learn more about the song and the creation process.
Tell us about yourselves and how you discovered your passion for music.
Alex-T: I am a DJ, producer and event organiser based in Dubai. Music has been my passion ever since I remember, and the knack for it was built up through my dad, who lets the radio play most of the day. Ever since, it has created an urge in me.
Aimee: Music has been in my soul from the day I was born. As a child I was always bopping along to Cher’s Believe, and as I grew up I would constantly perform song routines in the kitchen using my hairbrush as a pretend microphone.
I started developing my singing skills with my local youth choir in the little village of Mayobridge in Northern Ireland, participating in the Bosco local drama group and in school musicals, as well as taking lessons with an amazing singing teacher, Niamh McGeough. I was performing the lead role of Kim in Miss Saigon in a local school show, and while singing I’d Give My Life for You, it struck me that music is what I wanted to spend my life doing – and I finally believed that I could!
Since then, I went to drama school in London to train in musical theatre performance, and toured with the Irish dance show Rhythm of the Dance as lead singer, before eventually making my way into my true passion of song-writing.
Halishan: I am a DJ and a record producer based in Dubai, and started putting my passion into my music at the age of 16. I always knew what I wanted to do when I grew up, but it was hard in the beginning, since the only guidance I had was myself and the tracks I used to listen to, which helped me understand the styles of music, and after years in the industry, I found myself in dance music.
Tell us about the song, and the message behind it.
Aimee: Electrify Me depicts the electrifying feeling of falling in love and the longing for that person you want to be with – the whirling thoughts of your experience while in a long-distance relationship; their touch and their warmth, their smile and their laughter. This piece shows the adventure and excitement of finally being together and captures how exciting it can be when you finally reunite that fire – the energy it brings is electrifying.
What was the inspiration behind the lyrics?
Aimee: My now-husband was the inspiration for this love song – our relationship was a whirlwind of beautiful emotions, but also challenges; falling in love in the midst of the pandemic from two different parts of the world and dreaming of being together – then finally when you are, it’s amazing.
I always believe that lyrics come to you when you’re just flowing and not trying to push it, being as authentic as possible. When I started writing this song, it happened quickly – it flowed through me in about 30 minutes. I wanted to combine romance, nostalgia, and my personal experience of love with lyrics that I knew would be catchy, be relatable, and get people dancing.
What were some challenges you faced when putting together the song?
Halishan: We did have a few downfalls throughout the process while making the track, but since we had a great team, we managed to overcome those challenges and complete the track.
Adil.B (Artist Manager): As an artist manager, my sole responsibility is to keep my team together, co-ordinate with my artists, and make sure everything comes together according to the schedule. We did have some challenges along the way, but we made sure to work as a team and share each other’s opinions to finish the track.
Is this song part of an album to be released in the near future?
Alex-T: Yes, this track is a part of an album to come with other amazing artists and producers.
How did you settle on this style of music?
Halishan: I always wanted to create my own style of music, so I experimented by listening to many tracks, and I finally came up with a deep-house track fused with piano.
What has being a musician during an economic crisis taught you?
Alex-T: It has taught me to be wide-minded in the business, and not get caught up in one segment. It’s my personal belief that you need to explore and test yourself to know your actual ability.
Do you have anything else coming up this year?
Alex-T: It’s a wrap for me this year, but I have three more projects coming up in 2023.
Halishan: I am planning to release at least four more tracks this year. As soon as Electrify Me comes out on 11 November, my next track Atom, a collaboration with Ukrainian producer Max Owens, will be out on 18 November with the Bonzai Progressive Record Label in Belgium.
Aimee: Yes, I’m currently planning a Christmas cover. This is something very different from Electrify Me, I know; however, I love Christmas and Christmas music and it’s something I’ve always wanted to record professionally. This will be coming up in December. I also have lots of other songs that I’m looking to get produced, all within the similar feel of nostalgia and romance.
