GFH kicks off Christmas season with cake mixing
The last few months of the year are always exciting. Halloween excites the more macabre-inclined and from 1 November, preparations for the Christmas season begin in earnest. The Galle Face Hotel (GFH), however, always committed to providing excellence, has already begun its preparations for Christmas, starting with its Cake Mixing, which took place earlier this week.
Conceptualised by GFH Culinary Director Rukmal Samarasekera and the rest of the GFH team, the Cake Mixing event marks the beginning of the GFH’s seasonal festivities at the hotel and preparation for the many Christmas experiences the hotel hopes to offer, including a Holiday Goodies Shop where patrons can purchase Christmas treats, themed decorations, and other Yuletide goods, a splendid Christmastide market with a speciality counter for both traditional and exotic cured meats, its annual Christmas Brunch, the much-anticipated Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, and a celebratory Christmas Eve dinner in December.
This year’s Cake Mixing (set to the tune of seasonal music played by GFH’s famous bagpipe players) saw the base for 2,000 kg of Christmas cake laid down, along with 80 litres of the premium spirits traditionally used for making this seasonal treat. A 9 ft wooden barrel and custom-made base were constructed to lend the occasion an extra element of seasonal flair. As per the team at GFH, this is the first time such proportions have been used at a Christmas cake mixing in Sri Lanka.
In the true spirit of Christmas, GFH will also be giving back by bringing the famous Red Lantern Charity and Fundraiser back, along with a number of other Christmas celebrations and commemorative Christmas events.
