Popular singer and entertainer Ronnie Leitch passed away whilst on tour in Perth, Australia, this morning.
The 65 year old suffered and succumbed to a heart attack.
Easily the epitome of versatility in the Sri Lankan entertainment scene, he was a renowned singer, actor, presenter, and comedian.
Ronnie first entered the industry in the 1970’s through a contest called ‘Talent Club of Ceylon’ and it was through his song ‘Thattaya’ that he first gained fame. People began associating him with the name ‘Thattaya’ even since.
Since then, he has to his name around 350 songs, Kawda Bole Alice and Tikirimali being some of his notable creations.
He showcased his talent for acting through films and tele-dramas such as Ethin Ethata (1983) which was his first appearance, and a range of others; Kawda Machang Alice, Cheriyo Darling, and Kosthapal Punyasoma are a few of them, Siriraja Siri (2018) being his most recent appearance.
His demise is truly heartbreaking for Sri Lankans as he captured everyone’s hearts, both old and young.
