- Faras Musafer on following his passion at a young age
Faras Musafer is fresh out of school and is still waiting on his A/L results. He spent his years in school wisely, since he knew what career path he wanted to follow from a young age. At just 19 years of age, Musafer has established himself as an artist on social media platforms to the point where he now sells his work.
Musafer started drawing when he was in the ninth grade. Despite loving art from a young age, he was not born naturally gifted in the field – hard work and dedication went into honing his craft. Like most artists, he began by tracing pictures, picking up how to draw shapes and learning fine lines. Eventually, he felt his ability improving and moved on to aesthetic drawings of his own.
“I was amazed by how far I had come when I compared the work to when I first began,” he expressed. Trying to branch out into various styles, Musafer attempted to paint skies, but found his interest lay mostly within aesthetic drawings.
Speaking about how he became somewhat of an overnight success and opened his own online brand on Instagram (@chillhous._.e) where he sells his work, Musafer explained that every time he drew something, he would post it on TikTok.
“One day, a certain drawing went viral and I received so many likes and comments,” he said, adding that he was overwhelmed to find that his work was loved by so many people. The TikTok community is actually what cemented his desire to follow an artistic career and helped him find endless joy and happiness in his field.
It is a known fact that artists sometimes spend years switching from one style to another, in search of their calling. Musafer soon moved from painting to digital drawings. “I found an app that suited my taste, collected a few pictures of my friends for reference, and drew their pictures digitally,” he told us, adding that he received overwhelming support, and his friends complimented him on how similar his art was to the photographs.
This was when his online business really took off – portraits are an adored and much sought out keepsake for many, so business was naturally booming for Musafer, as many wanted their pictures immortalised in digital drawings. Aside from the custom pieces, he would also put up pictures of his own work where he’d drawn portraits of celebrities, singers, YouTubers, influencers, and streamers. “Some of them actually saw my work and complimented me on it; they seemed to love it so all my hard work paid off.”
There is always a lot of discourse about digital art where some claim it’s not real art. Musafer disagrees. “Digital drawing is just as valid an art form as any, and those that draw digital art aren’t better or worse than traditional artists.” He added that many beginners are attracted to digital drawing because the drawing software allows them to produce visually appealing illustrations.
Musafer, talking about why he decided to pursue a career in digital art, said that social media plays a big role in today’s generation so furthering a career through online platforms is a great marketing strategy. “This is why I chose digital art as my artistic medium, as I see a future in it,” he stated.
Once he receives his A/L results, Musafer has decided to focus more on his career. He will be pursuing a degree in graphic designing and hopes to work in as many creative fields as possible in the future.
