In celebration of International Women’s Day, Taj Samudra is offering 25% off for every table dining with a lady from 6-13 March 2022, at Golden Dragon, Navaratna, The Lattice, and Ports of Call.
This past Sunday, we decided to treat ourselves to the famous Sunday Brunch at the Ports of Call, the all-day restaurant at Taj. The Sunday Brunch is available from 12.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. And we definitely recommend that you block that time slot on your calendar because you really do need all of that time to properly explore this buffet.
Ports of Call has made a name for itself for their extensive breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets. There are over 100 dishes, and each of their signature restaurants have contributed to a select section of the spread – which includes a Japanese corner courtesy of Yumi, which has always been a personal favourite of ours.
The massive selection of dishes include an impressive array of international and local dishes. You are welcome to kick things off with a selection of three different soup options, and a bread corner that offers an absurdly wide variety of freshly prepared loaves and buns.
Then for starters, there is potentially the most impressive salad spread you’ve ever seen – a nice even split of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Personally we tend to spend a lot more time on the starters than the actual mains, mostly because we prefer to indulge in the meats and cheeses, and Ports of Call does not disappoint with the choice of cured meats and considerable spread of cheese options.
The starters are a definite star in the layout of dishes at the buffet, with some lovely complementing vinaigrettes it was worth the extra time we dedicated to that section. We like to include the sushi section together with the starters only because they are the lighter of the meals we enjoyed overall. We always have to really hold ourselves back when it comes to all-you-can-eat sushi, especially with so much sashimi just there for the taking.
Interestingly, hanging out right next to the Japanese corner were some Korean food, some gochujang, and miso for the enthusiast if they wish to try that out.
Then we moved on to the mains, the Sri Lankan food corner was lovely, but considering that we were there after all to try the things we usually would not have the opportunity to try, we focused a little more on the carving stations with the variety of meats, including lamb, pork, baked fish and the like. Moving on to the numerous curries, and seafood preparations which also includes cured salmon and oysters.
Finally, after spending a sufficient amount of time on the mains, we moved on to the lavish display of desserts. The dessert layout at Ports of Call is really something, it’s got a diverse variety of baked goods, Sri Lankan traditional kavili and Indian desserts to even out the line-up. We were particularly enamoured by the gulab jamun which was absolutely heavenly.
It’s safe to say that we spent our brunch pretty well, stuffed within an inch of our life, we cannot possibly recommend this more. It is definitely a treat and whenever time permits we suggest that you gather up your girlfriends, or your mom, your aunts and anybody else and hit the Ports of Call buffet immediately.
