- JustGoodness.co on marketing locally made eco-friendly products
In a world that is slowly but surely succumbing to the effects of climate change, it is more important than ever to focus on being sustainable. If you’re looking for a range for locally made sustainable products that won’t break the bank, you can head on over to the JustGoodness.co website, where one can purchase a curated collection of ethically sourced, sustainable, eco-friendly products.
Brunch reached out to JustGoodness.co Chief Executive Officer Shehani Rasaputra to learn more about the brand and what they have to offer.
Rasaputra launched JustGoodness.co when she was pregnant after facing a severe lack of products that were natural or sustainable in any way to use for her soon to be born son. “Back then, I ended up spending tons of money importing the products I wanted because they simply were not available here. On top of that, I had to pay an exorbitant amount at Customs as well,” she told us.
Recalling the irony of the situation, she explained that it was ridiculous that she had to spend so much money simply because she wanted her child to have access to safer and better products, and raise him to be mindful of the environment. So in attempts to capture this niche market, she launched JustGoodness.co, where she ensures that the products are natural, sustainable, and eco-friendly. Currently, they offer everything that one could need in one’s home for a healthier alternative.
All the brands under JustGoodness are made in Sri Lanka. Rasaputra highlighted the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs, especially in such tough times: “Right now, we carry over 90 different local brands that we support.”
She also stated that there are so many different sustainable options in the country that are available, adding that whenever customers visit their pickup point, they are always shocked – many are under the impression that these products are not available locally, as we are so used to imported products being of higher quality. “That’s really not the case. It’s time that we give the same opportunities that we do to imported brands, to locally manufactured goods in order to support them and the country.”
Speaking on their values and why she believes we should all be taking steps towards a sustainable lifestyle, she commented: “First of all, there is a need to understand that sustainability is not just about not buying plastic. It’s a really holistic concept where one needs to understand everything that it takes into consideration. For example, take a bar of soap – we need to take into consideration what the soap is packaged in, what the soap is made out of, and how it’s made.”
She further informed us that even if a product is plastic-free, they take one step further and check if it’s packed full of chemicals that could harm your body, or whether chemicals would flow into the water supply when washed off and eventually harm the marine ecosystem, leaving a bad effect on the world as a whole, pointing out that this is what being sustainable is all about.
The entire concept of JustGoodness.co aims to offer customers products that are good for the environment as well as for human use. “Sustainability is about making sure we are safe, the waters are safe, and the earth is safe. It’s about human rights; we have the right to clean water and food. That is what we offer.”
When asked about what they’re currently working on, she noted that right now they are trying to create a movement. “We want to make it easier for people to find these products and make it accessible islandwide,” adding that their platform also offers islandwide delivery. Rasaputra’s only hope for her brand is to simply support families on their journey to sustainability and a healthy lifestyle.
